What happened?

Waheguru Ji Ka Khalsa, Waheguru Ji Kee Fateh.

On the 16th of March 2009 Bow Gurdwara Sahib Committee brought 8 Saroops of Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji to Mata Sahib Kaur Academy. We are informed that the entourage of cars with Guru Ji’s Saroops was heading for Southall and for some reason not made known to us, changed direction and made towards The Academy. A phone call was made to The Academy informing us that they were en route. They arrived with 8 partially burnt Saroops of Sri Guru Granth sahib Ji at around 19:00 hours, 45 minutes after the phone call.

That evening local Sangat performed the Sewa of changing the burnt Ramala Sahibs and arranging for the comfortable resting of Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji.

The same evening and the next day calls were made across the country to numerous Jathebandia and Sampardamas in a plea to ask the elders to advise us how we should carry out the Sewa and what should be done next.

On the 19th March at around 12:00 hours Sant Jagjit Singh Ji Harkowale arrived at The Academy. After doing darshan of Guru Ji’s Saroops, they directly phoned Jathedar Akaal Takht, Giani Gurbachan Singh. Giani Ji told Baba Ji that the Sanskar of Guru Ji’s Saroops should be done in the UK. Sanskar of the Saroops needed to be done as soon as possible, to wait would be a further beadbi (disrespect). The Sangat also decided that given the condition of Guru Ji’s Saroops, Sanskar should be done locally in order to avoid long journeys.

Over the following days there were numerous conversations with Akaal Takht Jathedar. The Sewa of doing Sanskar of Guru Granth Sahib Ji has officially been given to Baba Narinder Singh of Gowindwal Sahib by Akaal Thakt. We were told to phone Baba Ji in order to confirm protocol, procedure and maryada. Baba Ji arranged for appointed Sewadars from Gowinwal Sahib to travel to The Academy to take charge. Three Singhs arrived and carried out the Sewa with such love and devotion that any praise done of them by pen would not be enough.

The Arambh of an Akhand Paath was on Friday at around 11:00 Hours and the Sanskar was scheduled for Sunday at Guru Gobind Singh Khasa College, Chigwell.

On Friday the 20th March the Bow Gurdwara Committee arrived at The Academy with a further three Saroops of Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji that had subsequently been recovered from the fire.

Efforts were made For Akaal Takht Jathedar to fly to the UK to attend the programme. Unfortunately he did not have a visa on his passport so could not fly at such short notice. He instructed Jathedar Takth Sri Kesghar Sahib, Giani Tarlochan Singh to fly to the UK for Sunday to oversee the Sanskar ceremony. Giani Tarlochan Singh arrived and did the Ardaas of the Akhand Paath Bhog at The Academy on Sunday 22nd March. Giani Ji also inspected the Angee-tha Sahib (room used for Sanskar) at Khalsa College. He praised the Singhs from Gowindwal Sahib for the quality of the Angee-tha Sahib.

On Monday 23rd March 2009 Sewadars from Gowinwal Sahib carried out the Sewa of removing the phul from the Angee-tha Sahib and taking them back to a comfortable resting place at The Academy.

Mata Sahib Kaur Sikh Academy neither claims nor wants no acclaim for the tireless Sewa carried out over the last week. This Sewa should have and was carried out by the Khalsa Panth. Brothers and sisters put their daily lives on hold as they travelled from around the country and stayed at The Academy to do Sewa. Waheguru knows who they are. Those who in their hearts have taken Guru Granth Sahib Ji Maharaj as their Guru had no choice. They were there shoulder to shoulder.
